Dancing the unknown

Contact Improvisation
Authentic Movement
“Togetherness, trust, letting go, and embracing the unknown.”

Dancing is my chosen practice to touch the present moment, embrace the unknown, connect through the senses, express myself, observe my patterns, transcend the ego, and open up to the collective. It’s a way to explore our relationships with others and bring those discoveries to life.

Here, you can explore the dance workshops I facilitate.

WHAT DO I SEE
WHEN I DON’T SEE?
Lab co-facilitated with Nirvan Navrin

Join us in exploring connection beyond social conditioning, delving into the truth of the present moment. This workshop invites you to engage in embodied practices that challenge your usual patterns of interaction.

It’s about togetherness, trust, undoing, and embracing the unknown. Activities include blindfolded exercises, blind contact improvisation, and authentic movement. We will alternate between practice and sharing, creating a rhythm of discovery and reflection.

By stepping into the unknown and moving beyond our comfort zones, we open ourselves to new ways of being and relating. These practices encourage deep listening to our bodies and each other. Through this process, we can experience a deeper connection to ourselves, others, and our environment.

We don’t know what we’ll find, but we do know that we’ll enter a space where possibilities expand.

CONTACT IMPROVISATION
Exploring the Principles of Contact Improvisation

Through various scores and games, we will practice some basic principles of Contact Improvisation: experiencing gravity, sharing weight, and inhabiting different levels. Contact Improvisation, created by Steve Paxton in 1972, is a dance form based on the communication between two moving bodies in physical contact and their combined relationship to physical laws like gravity and momentum.

This workshop offers a taste of possibilities that will help us feel comfortable moving through space and connecting with other bodies. We will delve into the sensation of touch, the art of giving and receiving weight, and the ability to move fluidly between different levels and planes. This practice enhances physical awareness and coordination while fostering a profound sense of connection and presence.

Let’s find freedom and creativity within the structure of Contact Improvisation, and unlocking new possibilities for expression and connection through the language of dance.

HOW TO DRINK CLOUDS AND DANCE THROUGH IT
Dance improvisation

Let’s dance and improvise with a body aware of the space, one that breathes water, eats rain, and hears fire, textures, memories, and images. We will break patterns and find more creativity in our dance through touch and a new imaginary.

We will explore the body’s capacity to move with an altered perception in relation to itself, the space, and other bodies. Seeking an empty state that allows us to lose the “I,” we will sense the collective and what surrounds us inclusively. We will invite the ego to dissolve, freeing us to explore what arises in the present moment and to be moved by the “third entity.” This way, we can appreciate the beauty of what we feel is ugly and the unknown without seeking a conclusion.

We will break patterns and aesthetic constructions of beauty and form in dance. Constantly in transition, our process will be one of “becoming,” allowing new territories and paths to appear. Always in between, with no beginning or end, the experience will take us somewhere, breathing and feeling the link between inside and outside. Sensing what is under the skin and listening to the tone of bodies changing in response to touch, we will establish invisible dialogues together and guide our thinking into attention.

Where does the dance start? What makes us move? Is it us dancing, or are we being danced by the dance? Is it us moving, or is it the echo of what surrounds us? Where is my attention? How far or how close is it? What is hidden in the body?

In the end, embodied poetry will open a performative space.

EXPLORING DANCE IN NATURE
Becoming one with your surroundings

In today’s digital age, it’s easy to lose touch with the present moment, drifting into other realities. This workshop invites you to reconnect with the here and now, becoming one with your surroundings. Through focused attention and meditation, we will deepen our connection to the present moment and feel an integral part of it.

We will dance, guided by the sounds of nature, the texture of the earth beneath our feet, and the sensations of temperature and environment. Through our senses, authentic dance will emerge. Blindfolded exercises and explorations with partners and groups will foster a sense of community and shared experience, enhancing our connection to both nature and each other.

Join us to rediscover the beauty of being present and to move in tune with the natural world.
